Published Jul 05, 2017Madonna only recently revealed that she dated hip-hop icon 2Pac back in the '90s, but now everyone is getting some intimate insight into the pair's relationship. A letter from the rapper to the "Material Girl" is set to go up for auction later this month, and TMZ has publicly shared the heartfelt correspondence.
The letter was addressed to "M" from 2Pac, and was written during his prison sentence at Clinton Correctional Facility, dated January 15, 1995, at 4:30 a.m.
In the letter, he apologizes for not being "the kind of friend I know I am capable of being" and goes on to cite their racial differences as the integral reason for their relationship's demise.
"For you to be seen with a black man wouldn't in any way jeopardize your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting," he writes. "But for me at least in my previous perception I felt due to my 'image' I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was. I never meant to hurt you."
Later, he claims that he has matured spiritually and mentally. "It no longer matters how I'm perceived," he continues. "Please understand my previous position as that of a young man with limited experience with a extremely famous sex symbol."
He closes by extending a renewed offer of friendship to Madonna, and imparts some advice.
"Please be careful Madonna," he urges. "Everyone is not as honourable as they seem. There are those whose hearts bleed with envy and evil. They would not hesitate to do you harm. Let my 5 bullets be proof of that!"
After signing the letter, 2Pac invites Madonna to visit him for a face-to-face conversation.
Some portions of the letter have been retracted, but you can read what's available here, courtesy of TMZ.
The letter will be up for auction between July 19 and 28 at Gotta Have Rock and Roll. Bidding starts at $100,000 USD. So far this year, both the vehicle that 2Pac was fatally shot in and the rapper's nose ring have also gone up for auction.
