John Carpenter Shares Two New Songs
John Carpenter has shared two new songs, marking the horror icon's first non-soundtrack music since 2016. You can hear "Skeleton" and "Unclean Spirit" in the players below.

Like much of his modern output, Carpenter created "Skeleton" and "Unclean Spirit" alongside son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies.

Both tracks will be pressed to vinyl for release as a 12-inch, set to arrive through Sacred Bones on August 28. The vinyl is now available for pre-order.

"It was refreshing to be able to write music that didn't have to fit to any sort of locked image," Carpenter explained in a statement. "We also had a specific focus and direction we wanted to follow when working on Halloween, both in terms of mindset and instruments, and being able to return to working without that narrow focus was refreshing. Although working on Halloween didn't specifically influence any of these new compositions, there is always a honing of craft that must take place when working on a film like Halloween, and our improved skills definitely helped us in writing these songs."

Carpenter and his two collaborators recently re-recorded his lost cues from The Thing for a recent vinyl release.
