Dave Grohl Is Allegedly Blocking the Release of Sunny Day Real Estate's New Album
The last time we got a Sunny Day Real Estate album was all the way back in the year 2000, when the anthemic indie-rock heroes released The Rising Tide. According to SDRE drummer William Goldsmith, however, we have none other than Dave Grohl to blame for the prolonged silence.

For the unfamiliar, Foo Fighters and Sunny Day Real Estate's paths are very much intertwined: Goldsmith used to be the Foos' drummer, while Grohl's band still counts SDRE's Nate Mendel as a member. And it's apparently Grohl who has emerged as a roadblock, preventing Sunny Day Real Estate from releasing a new album.

As Brooklyn Vegan reports, Goldsmith made the claims in a Facebook message, writing that Sunny Day Real Estate's new album "remains silenced, abandoned and buried within the murkiest depths of David Grohl's sock drawer."

Here's Goldsmith's scathing post:

Recently by way of objective ears I have been reminded of the fact that the greatest Sunny Day Real Estate record ever made remains silenced, abandoned and buried within the murkiest depths of David Grohl's sock drawer. It's both a shocking slap of reality and a swift kick in the balls. Gets harder to handle each time. Somehow someday — something has to be done. The tragedy of it is literally manifesting into physical pain. It honestly feels like someone has taken a part of me as a human being and locked it in a closet. My wife looked at me this evening and said "I am starting to understand what's been haunting you for the past 6 years because it's starting to haunt me as well." This is not the first time I've had my voice taken from me. But now this music hasn't just been taken away from me anymore — now it's been taken away from my children. Unforgivable.

So, yes, Goldsmith has just accused Grohl of stealing from his children.

It's unclear exactly how Grohl is stopping the release of the album, but Goldsmith has a pretty nasty history with Grohl.

UPDATE (12/4, 2:45 p.m. EST): Despite Goldsmith's claims, Sunny Day Real Estate/Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel has told Exclaim! the following: "There is no truth to this story."

UPDATE (12/4, 5 p.m. EST). Now Goldsmith has issued another statement, both offering up further clarification on his original post, as well as responding to Mendel's claim that there is no truth to this story

To add a positive lining to this whole thing, however, Goldsmith has uploaded a video containing some instrumental clips of music apparently from the new Grohl-blocked Sunny Day Real Estate album. You can check that out below.
