Published Oct 28, 2019This winter, J.J. Abrams will conclude the Star Wars trilogy with The Rise of Skywalker. If you've been feeling Star Wars fatigue over the years, you're not alone. In fact, the film is expected to have the worst box office return of the current series.
Of course, it's still going to make an absurd amount of cash. Box Office Pro anticipates that the film will likely rake in an approximate $200 million USD on its opening weekend. While that sounds like a lot of cash, it's low compared to The Force Awakens, which brought in $247.9 million, and The Last Jedi, which brought in $220 million.
The box office tracking site explained that typically Star Wars trilogies follow the same pattern at the cinema. The first film sets a benchmark for ticket sales, the second wanes a little and then the third film bounces back with box office sales. The Rise of Skywalker could break that trend.
The Rise of Skywalker hits theatres on December 20. Its trailer can be viewed below.
